gba overclocking question

Can I make a switch on my gba, put in a higher crystal, but leave the oridgianal<-- would somebody tell me how to spell that; so I could like skip slow parts or play a game slow or fast? just need some advice.

That's actually what a lot of people do with their dreamcasts. they have a switch they use so that they're not overclocking all the time, just with emulators and stuff. however, I'm not sure how reliable it would be to do so in the middle of gameplay as I have no personal experience.

It is not reliable to switch speeds during gameplay. I have tried it a few times. I remember it working once, but usually the game keeps running at the original speed. I usually just save the game and switch the speed when the GBA is turned off.

If I activate the switch while the GBA is turned off, it always works. The games always play perfectly at double speed. The only side affect I can think of would be slightly increased power consumption. When playing in overclocked mode, the power LED often turns red sooner than in normal mode.
