The closing up the shell issue is from the wire, like already said get ya some 30AWG wire, ya can find it at Rat Shack, they call it Wrapping wire or Kynar (Ki-nar) wire, but that stuff you're using there now is really way too big.
There shouldn't be anything at all wrong with the Triggers, unless ya pulled them from the board and reinstalled them, that can cause issues. Only other thing I can think of right off is ya have something soldered to something that shouldn't be, solder splash or some piece of wire in there shorting something out. If ya mean there is a trigger issue with the case not all the way together that's kinda gonna be a given.
One of the features of that board is that it can be turned on/off, so there's no need to add in a switch for that.
