Found a Radio Shack Ad Comic Book from 1979

Post by bicostp »

Why doesn't anyone give away fun stuff like this anymore? I found it cleaning out an old file cabinet in high school, brought it home, shelved it, and forgot all about it until I went though that shelf again today. I won't scan the whole thing (it just tells a very basic overview of the history of electronics and batteries), but here's a couple highlights, and of course the parts we're interested in: Radio Shack ads and coupons!

Please excuse the fairly bad scans, the paper is pretty thin, and it wasn't treated with the best of care over the years.

Radio kits!

"Present" tense makes this page pretty funny.
Enterprise is a real space shuttle, but it's incapable of spaceflight. It was an atmospheric test unit, built without heat shields or engines. Note it has the tailcone in place, which today is only used when the shuttle has to piggyback on the orbiter carrier jet when they land it in California.

Yeah, that happened in the 80s.

Hurr, I think it's from the 70s...

Holy crap, look at all the radios you can build!

Goodness, I wasn't even born at that period!

Nice scans. And police scanners? That's interesting.

I used to have one of those little electronics dealies back in the day! I totally forgot about it until I saw that add. Man, I wish I knew what happened to it.

Speaking of cool old things used to advertise Radio Shack. Take at look at this somewhat little thing I own:

It's a Battery Shaped, Radio Shack AM portable radio. Still works great. I got from a flea market about 2 years for $20. I went to that Flea Market specifically hoping to buy a old portable radio. (Nothing 80's or 90's old.) I found this Little radio there.

The odd thing is that you would think there would be lots of documentation about this radio on the internet. I've found little info to none on this radio.

Who knows if the Namco Portable will ever become a reality? :P
