Why is my tv so annoying? :(

I doubt it's going to explode or anything as it's done this since the day we got it like 5 years ago.

Anyway the problem... My tv makes loud hissing and poping noises randomly sometimes. It sounds like when you put a hotdog in the microwave for to long(I know you guys know that noise) The other thing it does is take about 15 seconds to turn on, and about 10 seconds to change the channels.

It's an rca crt. It about 5 or 6 years old. Not sure what model, as theres no papers anymore. I've searched for solutions to it, but there are none. It seems tons of people have this problem with the tv, exept for them there tv won't give them picture or sound.

Does the sound come from the speakers or the tube?

Sounds like fried capacitors. They're the only components I know of that sizzle or pop when they fail... and they can fail without other components coming along for the ride. Since this wasn't your first assumption, I do NOT recommend that you open the set up. Either send it to a reputable repair shop, or replace the set entirely.

I'm poor as hell, I can't get it repaired, or buy a new one.

It's not coming from the speakers either. It's not a big deal, it's been doing this for like 6 years, just thought I;d see if it was fixable.

You know you can get a free estimate at a good shop. They'll TELL you if it would be cheaper to buy a new set, and a new 20-some in CRT with all the decent inputs is $100. If you can't afford that, then you need to get your priorities in order. That's two damn cartons of cigarettes, and it's not unfair to assume most people with money problems are also smokers.

The caps are NOT fried. Or it wouldnt work.

The caps are most likely "Leaking". Meaning, that there poorly made.

Mister X. I'm 16, $100 is hard to get... Anyway, I like this TV, it has 2 s-video hookups in the back, and 2 rca hookups. It's been good to me, and it only does the noise if you leave it on for like 5+ hours. Before 2 days ago the last time it did it was 6 months ago.

All capacitors will eventually break down and leak. Electrolytic capacitors especially. Just because they're failing does not mean that complete equipment failure will occur. Bad caps on a motherboard can cause seemingly random reboots, but hey, the board still boots.

Well, I'll give you that, but that's still less than half of a part-time paycheck. Summer's coming, and all the fast food joints are looking for summer workers.

And all the potential summer workers are looking for drug money...

Hey, if you don't value your health and well-being, crack the set open while wearing insulated gloves. Look for any capacitors that are bulging or burst, or any other components that may look burned, melted, or otherwise past their prime. If it's just capacitors, then odds are pretty good that some other component didn't die, and replacement should be pretty simple. Google has plenty of information on safely discharging capacitors and CRTs.

or dumbasses that drive SUVs and get jobs 60 miles away from where they live. Stupid.

I guess you guys are new around here. Most of these people are too young to smoke and are not dumbasses.

If anything, id say the influx of new members who talk like they own the place are the dumbasses.

Dang, man. that's nuts. I must have just been lucky that didn't happen to me. BTW, I don't know what your setup is like, but if you have aux outputs on your TV, you could run the sound through your stereo. I don't know if it would stop it or not, but it is a good way to step up your sound.

Yes, it is unfair. That's actually quite an asinine assumption to make. People have money problems for a lot of reasons, none of which are really any of your business. I've never smoked in my life, but I still have a hard time making ends meet. That just happens to be the way things are for a lot of people.
