Sharing the root drive.

Post by ghosstt »

well, I reformated my PC (finally), and I left 5 GBs un-partitioned. I partitioned it NTFS. (Keep in mind, its still part of my main HD, i only have 1) I wanted to make this a shared drive, so all the computers could access it, but when I went to share it, It said It was unrecommended because its the root drive (easily understandable). But do you guys think it will be ok? (just as a network drive)

Go ahead and do it; it's not the system drive.

Besides, it's not like Windows doesn't share the root of every drive anyway. :P (Search Google for "administrative shares" and be amazed.)

Yeah, what Bic said. There was someone on our wifi network once, and I could access their entire C drive. I could've been a complete jerk and screwed with them or something, but I just posted a friendly reminder to the desktop saying that having C$ shared while on some random person's wifi network is a bad idea.

Haha, I actually did the exact same thing.

If you aren't planning to store anything important on that logical drive then it will be fine.
