NES flashing white/black and power flashing - fix??

I got a free NES today, however when I put a cart in and turn the system on, I get white and black flashing on the screen and the power light flickers on and off continuously - anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it please? Apparently it works sometimes but most of the time it doesn't.

Any ideas please??

The power light flashing is cause by the 10NES lockout chip in the console continually resetting the system, because it can't communicate with the one inside the game cartridge. Usually because of dirty connectors.

You could try opening it up and performing the lockout disabling mod, but you will still need to get the cartridge connector to get good contact.

This is what was wrong with mine. Probably water damage. Thats what mine hasd.
