Excellent information about 3rd party controllers

I'm not taking credit for this, but I have been registering on some N64 forums so I can make them aware of my 1st stage of my project when done (N64). On one of these forums, one member pointed to his thread, which gives excellent information about third party N64 controllers. Worth a look:

Got to get myself one of those hori cat minis. That looks like a gamecube stick in there and a small board. Great spot Bacteria.

They are extremely hard to find for a reasonable price.. I was looking on ebay for those years ago, but they didn't go for under 200 dollars

Looks like the current price on eBay for a hori mini pad is around $35 plus shipping. However, considering that if I wanted a gamecube thumbstick then I'd have to chop up two controllers it works out to be an acceptable price. I'm thinking about scouting around for a cheap one and getting it...

I agree with the person who wrote that. The official N64 controler's joystick doesn't last forever. My old lucky controlers one broke.

You can desolder the joystick from a GameCube mobo and you then have two joysticks - they are both the same.

Yes, I know, but I don't have a gamecube controller. Plus, I'd need a third party N64 controller to do the mod, which I don't have, so basically I have the option of buying two controllers or just one. Since it's hard to find cheap gamecube controllers this might make things easier for me.

I got some cheap GameCube controllers from car boot sales. Â£1 each; using them though on my project.

One interesting fact - the joysticks in an official GameCube controller are smaller than ones from unofficial ones or PSone controllers - by about 2-3mm or so. Work just as well.
