Controller Splitting

Hello! What I want to do is split my gamecube controller in hallf as to have the abxy and c buttons on the right side of my portable and the d pad and joystick on the left. What would I have to rewire? Could somebody tell me how to go about doing this? If so that would be a big help so I can get my Gamecube handheld finished.
