New NIN album = FREE!!!

Trent Reznor is now no longer attached to a record label and seems to enjoy giving away music these days. Nice!

Trent is the man! He's been kvetching about his label since he was still a part of it (pre-Year Zero).

Now he's label-free and taking full advantage of it. The RIAA must hate him right now.

This latest album is pretty good. It's no Downward Spiral or The Fragile, but decent nonetheless.

Trent is awesome! Glad to hear you appreciate "The Fragile" (my favorite album of all time). It seems to be one of his most underappreciated efforts for whatever reason. Probably due to the sheer variety and mellower (for the most part) edge...

I was reading about NIN the other day and apparently during the "Year Zero" USB drive viral campaign the RIAA clamped down on people distributing what was on the USB drives. Even though that was the whole point!

Upon hearing about this Trent (at a concert no less) told the audience to download/steal all his music. He didn't care. He just wanted his music to be heard. Pretty cool. As you said the RIAA probably has a pretty low opinion of him these days. LOL

I'm listening to "The Slip" for the second time right now and enjoying it. Definitely not his finest effort, but solid nonetheless.

Maybe this one will be like "With Teeth" and grow on me over time. I was pretty underwhelmed by that one when it first came out. After listening to it hear and there over the past couple of weeks however, I have found an appreciation for it. It is actually pretty damn solid. I think I like it even more than "Year Zero" which I never thought I would have said even a month ago.

Give me Trent or give me death!

Just finished listening to it, very solid album, allot better than what I expected for a free album, sadly this is my first NIN album, but I plan on getting more NIN here real soon.

I will most likely listen to it a 2nd time before the day is over.

Yeah, I saw this somewhere else yesterday and downloaded it, pretty good. I liked it better than the last free album they gave away, Ghosts I. My tastes aside, with Radiohead having done the same thing with their In Rainbows album, I think this is a great trend for the industry. I'm all about free, legal music!

Glad people are enjoying it. With a band as big as NIN doing this it could be a sign of things to come. I have a feeling this move is making the record labels at least a little bit nervous. Trent is basically saying have the music for free and if you like it buy my shirts and come to my concerts if you want to support me as an artist.

If it proves to work out for him it is possible that other bands who are unhappy with their record labels may follow suit. Of course not every band out there is NIN, but I think it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Trent took it a step beyond what Radiohead did and it may prove to be quite the savvy move for him when people look back on it 5-10 years from now.

It is never to late to get hooked on NIN. Pretty much any other NIN album (excluding the remix albums) is better than The Slip IMO, but it is still pretty good and you can't beat the price.

I shall dump it onto my iPod later. This is my first NiN album; I've heard good things about them.

I know when OiNK got shut down last fall, Trent Reznor spoke out against the takedown; he was a member there. I guess this is his big "Eff you" to the music industry. And the industry should be shaking in its boots if this becomes a trend.

Ha! Didn't you hear? NIN is an OLD band.

The band formed in 1988 and released their debut album "Pretty Hate Machine" in 1989.

So they're old like me. Not as old as me, but old nonetheless.

NIN is just a little older than my other favorite band Tool (first album in '92)...
