New Atari 2600 composite video mod works with PSone screen!

Yes, after all these years! There's a link on my main page to it, or it can be found in the book section.

Basically it disconnects some resistors (including one re: audio) on the Atari board thus keeping the video signal coming off the TIA discreet. Then it uses fixed resistors (rather than pots) to produce the signal. Finally it uses a transistor to amplifly the video signal and send it on its merry way!

The result is a very clean signal (even with the Atari exposed and chopped into a 4" x 4" square) that even works with Sony Vega TV"s! (it didn't before)

By using different value resistor the circuit can also be used with a 5" PSone screen! Yahoo!

Note: I had a really cool PSone screen based Atari designed for my book, but couldn't get the video to work, and I didn't have time to come up with a mod. Darn...

sweet sweet sweet! I never really wanted to use a pocket TV for my portable!(as it is mucho dinero $$$) now I don't have too! awesome!

leave it too ben to reinvent his inventions. although too bad there are No spiffy CNC built cases for a bigger screen. Wish this were included in your book, but We have it here and it rules!! (I used 6 exclamations in this post...)

NOTE: To use this video output mod with a 5" PSone screen use these different resistors as indicated:

377 ohm resistor instead of 370 ohm
193 ohm instead of 130 ohm
680 ohm instead of 1K

The rest of the circuit remains the same.

Composite video, plain video signal. Otherwise hooked up through RCA (yellow, white, and red) cables.

Looks like Gannon or Spongebuell will have to edit the screens page and say yes to the Atari working with a PSone now (with a link to the mod).

You going to post the Atari design with the PSone screen? It soulds like a cool portable.

Im having to order a few extra parts than I need... (Crappy digikey!

Ok, just to clarify, this mod will:
-be able to work with sony screens
-probably have the big white pot and the sound circut built in. (Though theres pretty much nothing there...)
-cost definatly under $10 + shipping, proobably ~ $5 plus shipping depending on intrest.
-be ready built, just solder a few contacts to the atari board.
-include instruction on how to do the mod.

As of this moment I have 1 person interested.

why would someboady pay u for that when anyboady with the ability to install yours would be able to follow the simple instrutions ben provided if you sold just sell off the extra parts at cost

Not sure... I would like all components to be put together for my part. Maybe you could do half and half. If someone wants one preassembled charge a little more, if not charge a little less?
