Recovering a file that radomly disappeared....

I have a Dell Inspiron 2500. Don't knock it, it was free, and it's the first laptop I've been given that takes floppy drives. (My camera still uses them). It's running Windows 2000. Tonight, I spent several hours creating a folder of pics and documents. I brought the laptop back home, and plugged a jump drive into it. I moved the folder from the desktop to the drive, then transferred the drive to my desktop computer. The folder wasn't there. I went back to the laptop, and it wasn't there either. I've checked hidden files, and nothing. Is there a trick to find that folder? I've already put over four hours into the project, and I don't really want to start all over. Does anyone have any tricks I can try? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Did you "safely remove" the USB drive? Or else, do you know that write caching is disabled on it? If you just yanked it out its possible that the files were never copied to it by windows.

I shut down safely after I moved the file, since I was done with the computer. I removed the drive after that. I can't see where write caching is disabled or not.

Dang. I may have to start over after all.
