Laptop screen help? (me found a pinout, me confused though)

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Laptop screen help? (me found a pinout, me confused though)

Post by ShockSlayer »

ok, I had an old compaq laptop in the attic, so I got it down and took it aoart, and then I got the screen out

the screen is a Hitachi tx31d24vc1caa
I found this data sheet: http://www.datasheet4u.com/html/T/X/3/T ... I.pdf.html

can anyone help me with this? or tell me where to go from here?

SS

EDIT: I intend to hook up some kind of game system(n64, gc, wii) to it, I'll take any video signal I can input. Probably a wii.

Do an eBay search for 'LCD Controller', theres a vendor or two on their that sell controllers and the needed cable to interface the LCD. ~$80 shipped for something that can take composite, S-Video, and VGA and convert it to the signals your panel needs (email seller with the part number of the LCD to confirm that the controller is compatible.) ~$60 shipped for just VGA (which only would work for Dreamcast and modded X-Boxes)

If you were expecting to just wire some things together, forget it. The digital nature of Laptop LCDs prevents that from happening.

I went here and found out that i need a svp-1280 or a dvi-1280

Where would I buy one, or where would I buy the parts to make one?

Also, could you link me to the aforementioned eBay sellers? I couldn't find any on my own.

SS

EDIT: I found out the the SVP-1280 is EOL(end of life) and that they aren't making anymore. Is there a replacement?

A laptop Lcd HAS to have a controller card that is programmed specifically for the LCD you are using. Also it HAS to have a special LVDS cable made for it and wired for the controller.

Their are 2 different controllers sol on Ebay that will work.

One is VGA only and the other has VGA/Composite/S-Video.

You have to email the seller with the actual LCD model/make # and they will tell you if it will work.

No.
Your laptop screen, like most, is digital RGB, and you can't use it unless you don't mind buying a controller board that would cost more than just simply buying a compatible screen to begin with.
I honestly thought you would've figured that out by now.
