Do you have a technical question that doesn't really fit a specific console? Want some general info on electronics, hacking, making cookies, etc? Here's the place to ask! Go nuts.
My friend and I are planning on buying Ben's book and actually attempting to do one of the handheld hacks. Does anyone know which one would be the cheapest one to start out with? We plan on selling them, making more money, and eventually having enough money(and experience) to try to build the xbox 360 laptop.
As you will see in the forum here, you won't get rich. Anyway, the easier the mod, the less people will want it or be willing to pay much for it. The emphasis here is to enjoy making projects as a hobby.
You would be better getting a part time job and raising funds that way.
If you think you can sell it for reasonable profit, make one and give it a go; however only make that system if you would like to use it yourself if it doesn't sell.
Difficulty? Honestly it boils down to what you want to build. Each portable has its hard spots and easy spots, but if there's a portable you especially want to make you're more willing to figure it out and see the project through to the end.
Edit: Most of them are pretty even in cost. SNES, PSOne, Atari, and NES can all be found in the $25 - $40 region.

Indeed, this is one of the nice things with old consoles, you can buy them from e-bay for just a few bucks; so if you fry one, it isn't a problem! The games are very cheap too (and great quality, especially on the SNES and N64 (in my view)).
