Laptop ram

Post by thehackerinside »

Hi

Just bought a dell L400 laptop (nice little laptop if anyones looking for one, great for what I need it to do) anyway it has 128mb of 144pin pc100 ram it has a PIII moblie processor and runs a little slow and I just happen to have 256mb of 144pin pc133 ram, so is it compatable I do know that the max the laptop takes is 256 But I'm just asking so I don't bugger my new little baby up.

Thanks, Joe

EDIT: I was looking at ram on ebay and in a lot of the listings has pc100/pc133 and this has confused me more.

(My av can just stay christmasy  )

Just get something with higher numbers.

Ther higher the number = the better.

EXCEPTION!

The "cas latencicy" or whatever it is called is better lower.

There might be troubles with both sticks in there, though, I've never encountered any trouble myself with mixing PC100 and PC133. If it ends up being troublesome, use only the PC133 stick.

PC133 should be fine in a PC100 slot; it will just run at the lower speed.

Try it and see. As long as you perform the installation right, the worst thing that cnan happen is the laptop doesn't like the memory and you have to put the 128 MB card back in.

Now I assumed that It said M for memory 4 X 64, guess I'll buy a good stick thats pc100. Thanks for your help everyone!
