What do you do with an SGI Indigo2?

Do you have a technical question that doesn't really fit a specific console? Want some general info on electronics, hacking, making cookies, etc? Here's the place to ask! Go nuts.

What do you do with an SGI Indigo2?

Post by drjayphd »

Snagged one of these puppies from Goodwill for $40. Indigo2, 195MHz R10000. (Further specs here. Unfortunately, there's a couple of problems:

* Video. That, uh, doesn't look anything like a VGA connector on the back...
* Everything else: It doesn't power on. There's two SCSI drives in there, but I don't know what would cause it to not boot. Loose SCSI cord? Dead something?

Anyway, I thought I could use it as a MythTV backend box or file server, but... no clue. I don't even think it can take PCI cards... :?

Does it have this card?

I think that's this connector:

As for not powering on, maybe the power supply's shot?

If you can get it to boot, it might make a good file server if you can find more SCSI hard drives. (Or if it can handle IDE drives.)

Nope, it's got the 13W3 connector (the one on the left in that pic) in one slot, a blank space, and what looks like a serial port the next slot down. Which, if I understand it, means it's got the newest video card this could handle.
