The easiest, and fastest PSone portable idea!
Ok... For some reason, this just came to me this morning. It would be the fastest way to build a portable PSone... Just buy a PSone/LCD combo, like i did long ago, and mod the controller into the case! You can easily buy the battery, which is thin, AND connect to the bottom of the case. May need a little help making it stay, but thats no trouble. My idea is to simply mod the controller PCB with spring loaded switches, and mount them to the case on the top right and left... AND desolder the analog, and mount them. On top of the start button, select button, analog button. The shoulder buttons will be spring loaded siwtches too, mounted to the back of the LCD monitor base. This idea is so simple, and workable. There's enough room in the console to house just the controller PCB. I will even use the controller cord out to the front so it can connect to the controller port itself, and be removable if needed. This also supports memory card function, and pure RGB video without any special mods! Will be awsome. Am starting to attempt it today. Drawing up some concepts, thinking of all the things that can go wrong. Any ideas for add-ons? Thinking to include the RCA input mod just becuase! But prolly not enough room after analog stick. Forgot to say this... I'm not sure about anyone elses LCD monitor, but mine folds where its parrallel witht he console, which would be the ideal position of the monitor when playing. Does anyone else's LCD monitor fold down this far? Any addition mods I can do for the portable?
Hey! Thats cool! I see you used the same "kinda" switches i wanna use. I can't seem to think of a good way to make sure all the buttons are equal and look the same for both sides. In some way I'll accidently cut a button off center, and it'll be noticable. Cool portable though, for real! Even though the resolution of the LCD looks bad formt he pic. Is it really that bad in person, or is it just the camera? I also don't plan to name the controls... Its obvious which is which. i want this to look as good as possible. I actually wanted to use the controllers original buttns, cut out the inside of each plstic piece, and glue them onto each NO switch... That would be tight!
Thats not portable though Gannon! Ohh and yeah, i don't visit that site very much. "I" had just got the idea today... It's so much easier. Does any of those portables have a mod chip, blue LED, aND RCA input jacks? Prolly not...
Here are some pics of the unit so far today...

I clamped a piece of PCB board onto the case with a small vice, then used the PCB board as a drilling template/guideriva16 wrote:I can't seem to think of a good way to make sure all the buttons are equal and look the same for both sides. It's the camera. Or more probably my lack of camera skillsriva16 wrote:Even though the resolution of the LCD looks bad formt he pic. Is it really that bad in person, or is it just the camera?
Hey, don't give up hope that easily.

Andit WOULD have, if I noticed the controller problem before drilling. The point of my portable is to be able and fold it like normal, BUT I cut the controller holes too far up, and the LCD won't fold all the way... I have a spare case I could use, just lower the controls, but I'm not testing my luck... I barely got the LCD back together yesterday without breaking it again...
