Nomad battery alternative

Looking to possibly add a rechargeable battery internally to my nomad if thats possible. Maybe like a sony camera battery or whatnots. Anyone have any suggestions or links to some info i can browse. I just bought the book and am new to this site but its been on my mind for some time now.

I bought a rechargeable battery pack and when i noticed it was dead i bought new batteries for it but now they dont hold enough juice and even a 6 hour charge doesnt allow me to play buy 2 minutes. Any thoughts on ways to test it via multi meter.. I learn best by trial and error but i would rather be safe than sorry.

Any help would be great..

If you're really set on making the battery life better, replace the screens lighting with LED's.

What kind of batteries are you using? Ni-CD batteries are really bad idea. I had a Game Doc for my Game Gear and that thing just went on a downward spiral over a year and a half. Ni-MH is a better option, holds more, don't have that stupid memory issue like Ni-CD, and has hundreds of recharges.

Last option might require some modding, and that is to fill the battery compartments with Li-Ion. You'll get even more play time then Ni-MH and their smaller.

Other then that you can get as much as a 33% increase on overall battery life doing the LED screen mod like Valium mentioned. You want to know how that's done, go to portablesofdoom.org and look under screens.

thanks for the reponse. I am trying to use these batteries that someone told me would work. They are TEnergy NiCD 4/5A 1300mAh. I wish I could turn back time to where i bought these batteries so I can buy better ones but since this is a 20+dollar project now i just wouldn't mind them working.

Can anyone tell me if these batteries could power the nomad at all?Thanks all

Ni-CD can power the Nomad, so long as you have six and they're AAs. Also when using Ni-CD, drain them, use them 'til their dead! Then give them a full charge. Ni-CD have a memory, and if you charge them without fully draining them the battery will only go down to where it was when you charged it last. So just be mindful of that and they can work well.

Also 1300mA, is good for rechargeables. You'll get about twice the gaming time you would if you used Alkaline.

go nimh. most nimh AAs are 2500mah and they dont have a memory effect

probably a total noob question but every time I try to recharge, It takes acouple of hours then i plug it up to the nomad and it will only stay on for like 5seconds, then die. Im getting a reading of 6.5 volts from it which is not good seeing the nomad uses 7volts. Should I just try to let it fully charge and about how long would that take? Also would the batteries be completely dead if the system doesnt stay on? I want to keep that memory fresh.

any comments at all will help. has anyone hacked in a RC car rechargeable battery to the nomad? Thats what I want to do.

Does the nomad have a 7805 power chip that i can hack the battery to? suggestions?
