OK, like some of you may already know (as I mentioned it in some other threads), I was given a free 32X by a local used game store owner (actually computer repair shop that handles games, but thats unimportant). Even better, it had the AC adapter and, most importantly, that little cable to connect the video from the Genesis to the 32X, the one cable that is actually worth more than the 32X itself.
Well, here's where the suck part comes in:
one of the pins is bent on the connector cable. I plugged it in (without knowing this) and wondered why the image was jumpy, so I tried again and eventually got it to play without sound, so I tried a third time and got it to play without sound, only this time I got a "hmmmmmm" sound out of the speakers. Upon inspecting the plug, one pin has been bent over so it inserts with another pin. Now, in order to ever get proper operation I'll have to bend this pin back, but I've tried this before on a video camera that had similar pins and they just broke off like nothing. So does anyone have a method to recommend for bending back very thin and also possibly very fragile pins? If I break this pin, I'm screwed, the best I can ever hope for is operation without sound since I'm guessing this is the sound pin. I'm not even sure the 32X actually works since I don't have any 32X games yet (on the way) and I heard some things can be broken and it will still play Genesis games (I tested it with sonic and sonic 2). If it matters at all, at least the pin is bent in a sort of "S" shape, so its not a total harsh bend, which may yield better results.
cliff notes: how can you safely bend back a pin on the plug for the Genesis to 32X connector cable?
the most terrible thing that could possibly happen for a 32X

lol, wow, I don't want to even imagine what that looked like!geekbait111 wrote:I'm not saying you should do this, but I just used a fork for the genesis RF cable... it was OK but not the best
well, I was hoping there was some miracle method to straightening pins, but I guess I have no choice but to grab some pliers, move really slowly, and pray to the Sega gods that I can get it straight and it won't break off in the system the first time I try it (one major thing I'm scared of, because I don't think I would ever get it out again).

Yay! I did it! I used some tweezers because pliers were too long and after 10 minutes of painstakingly slow inching I got it straight (enough)! I almost crapped my pants when I plugged it in and it started up and worked 100%. Now just to get that 32X game in so I can make sure the 32X part of it works (as I've heard certain things can be messed up and it will still play genesis games). Apparently these pins are a little more robust than the pins I tried to fix on that video camera a couple years ago, plus the fact it was in a gentle "S" shaped helped as it wasn't enough to strain harden the metal. I even pulled on it a little bit with the tweezers to strength test and it was solid as a rock. I'm so happy, I've always wanted a 32X, even if all the games suck, lol!

ok, well now I know which games to look for then, I know I want Knuckles Chaotix because any Sonic game is good, Tempo I had no idea, and I had seen gameplay of Kolibri but it just seemed so weird I didn't know if it would be fun or not.dragonhead wrote:ehem?
