Guitar Hero Faceplates

Not actually portable related, but you guys seem to know a lot about paint.

What's the best way to paint a white Guitar Hero 3 faceplate? I want to make the guitar look like this:

I tried printing out a design I made in Photoshop, but paper looks like crap.

Spray paint seems like the best option, right? Maybe get red and orange, spray the whole thing orange, and then spray the outer edges red? Hmm maybe even mask out the pickguard to keep it white. I really don't want to ruin it though because I don't know where to get a replacement.

Airbrushing is your best option, but if you want to try it with spray paint, more power to you.

An airbrush would probably give you the best finish.

What about glossy paper? It would take a lot of ink to do at home but you could always have them printed at CVS. (Just go through the photo machine; it should take USB drives or CD-Rs... They don't care if it's a photo or not.)

Well I don't have access to an airbrush (unless you know something I don't). The problem with using paper is it's really hard to get the size right. Also, I'm not sure how to attach it without it looking like crap.

Hmm... Is the surface of the guitar flat or curved?

If you can get a high resolution picture of wood grain colored properly, you could have a big vinyl sticker made up at a sign shop.. Or you could make a real wood replacement panel... (That would probably be harder, but certainly more realistic!

)

Those faceplates are flat. Easy way for a wooden effect is thet thin wood they use on cheap school tables. Difficult to cut though as it shatters easily

The problem with a sticker even is cutting it to the exact shape. I could try tracing it, but when I tried that with paper, it came out too big somehow.

How much does a high res vinyl sticker cost? It probably needs to be around 15 inches by 15 inches... I'd like to keep this as cheap as possible.
