Weird portable idea

I got this old tv at a yard sale and i hooked an N64 to it and it plays and it can run on batteries or through a cigarette lighter. I was wondering if anybody could help me make just the 64 run on batteries?

Not easy to understand your question as it is poorly written.

I think you mean the television runs off batteries and you want the N64 to do the same - there are many threads in this forum about this, however "old tv" is too nondescript - You need to know the voltage the screen needs as the N64 mobo needs power in two voltages and the screen needs power too. The rest of the info you can find by research in this forum.

sorry about the unclear question. Well the tv's input is 120v and the output is 12v. But it also takes 9 D batteries. To make my portable i just need to get like a diagram or something to help me make my N64 run on batteries.

It doesn't really matter how big it is, he just wants to get an N64 running off bateries, I don't think he is looking for a true portable, but he would like to be able to run his N64 where there is no power.

Here is a link to Harshboy's power diagram, by all means rig it up, and simply ignore anything connecting to the screen.

You might want to convert that to use a rechargeable battery, or else you are probably going to be burning through expensive D batteries at an alarming rate.

You are going to need a beast of a battery. what current is the TV's wall adapter rated for? This will give you an idea of how much power it uses. take that number, add 1 for the n64, and thats roughly how many Amps @ 12v you will need:

less than 2: get a 12v NiMh RC car battery, usually around 3000mAh
2 - 4 : consider getting two of these batteries or you may have only an hour of play time
4-8: this is where you get into Lithium battery territory. You could use some newfangled Li-phosphate batteries that are perfectly safe.
8+: car battery?

That's a lot of heavy batteries and short power life. This will be like lugging weights about rather than being a "portable" (you referred to "make my portable"). The cost of batteries will be big; how about just ditching the screen and getting a more popular one (plus the fact people can help you with wiring diagrams for known systems)? That way it would be a portable.

The tv is 12" L, 9.5" W, 5" H. Im not trying to make something i could take with me like say a psp. I just want to be able to play in the car or if somebody else is using the tv. To use rechargable batteries i dont think i would have to do any rewiring because it looks like it already has an adapter for that. The tv is from like 1985 by the way

CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) monitors are not very popular anymore. You should probably get a new screen. LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screens are really popular now. You should really look into getting rechargeable batteries. There is not much we here at Benheck can do for you. Learn electronics and it should be pretty self explanatory.
