LED mod... too bright?

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

LED mod... too bright?

Post by khaag »

Well I LED modded my zenith screen (same as psone screen) and I put in 4 bright white LED's. When I run the screen, it looks nice and bright, but when I press the volume or brightness buttons, you can barely see the bar that comes up, and there is virtually no colour. Is this because I put in 4 LED's instead of 3? Or is my screen effed?

hm, I don't think 4 LEDs would do something like that

I'd check for things on the back, like loose solder and the likes. Sounds like a smt component is shorted.

Considering that the LED mod makes the screen duller than before, its probably a short somewhere.

Oh and by the way, I got your screen in the mail today. Have yet to test it though. I love the cracker box you put it in.

Anyway, there's a new problem... I removed 1 LED and it made no difference. I hooked up some RCA jacks and there's an even bigger problem. All the colours are inverted. WTF.

I had the EXACT same problem after LED modding my Zenith screen.

You're using the daughterboard for power and video and the likes, aren't you? Try using battery power and direct hook-ups. It should work 100%

what do you mean daughterboard? My LED's are connected directly to the 7805 on the mobo, and the video is soldered directly to the mobo also.

Adn power?

My zenith screen came with a daughter-board that connected the original video cables and the likes to the screen.

In the end, it turned out to be a problem with the current going in to the screen I believe. Definitely something involving the power line.
