Nintendo's Mainstream Idea: A bit too far? EDIT: Crappy Ads!

Post by CronoTriggerfan »

Okay, as much of a Nintendo fan as I am, I think something is seriously wrong here. Going for the mainstream is a smart corporate move, as it greatly broadens the sales opportunities of your company overall. This generation, this theme has defined Nintendo's business plan, which is fine, as long as the cater to the hardcore/veteran gamer, which they are starting to do now.

...but why would you try to use mainstream marketing themes like the "Wii would like to play" commercials to try and sell a hardcore gamer's game like Metroid Prime 3 Corruption? If you don't know what I'm talking about, look at the Metroid Commercial or check out a print ad for the game. I mean, sure, my dad and my grandma played Wii Sports and enjoyed it, but there's NO WAY they'd ever play Metroid. It's times like this I wish I worked in advertising or marketing so I could slap people in the face for doing this crap!

I agree. Nintendo has taken it way too far. But still, even the "hardcore" gaming companies have crappy advertisements too. See what I mean?
Meh, I don't post much.

Erm...

Image

"Introducing, a new innovation in the field of dairy and dairy products: PORTABLE CHEESE! Missing out on your dairy consumption at work because it's just too dang hard to take it there? The newly designed cheese wheel is optimized for portability. It fits perfectly in any standard spare tire holder for easy access."

I could have made that better but didn't feel like it. Pretend it was funny.

And send it to:
1 Koopa Lane, Mushroom Kingdom, Marioland. 1985 :P

But really they need to make their ad's a bit more aggressive.

I can't wait to see what happens when the public's attention shifts away from the Wii and to something else, just like what happened to the Atkin's diet and sudoku. (You never stopped hearing about them, but they overloaded their target demographic and the market collapsed. In other words, people got sick of them.) Eventually, the wave-em-all-around allure will wear off for most so-called "casual gamers" (coughnongamescough), and the console will most likely be left with the same kind of crowd the Gamecube had.

But yeah, that ad isn't exactly fitting compared to some of the older Metroid ads. It has that "Let's appeal to Billy and his grandma!" feel. Does this show that they're more interested in appealing to everyone than catering to their existing fanbase? Have they admitted that they can't keep up with Sony and Microsoft in computing horsepower? Or is it just a sucky ad that was molded to match the rest of their campaign?

NOTE: I'm not trying to bash the Wii directly, or promote the 360 or PS3. This is just a prediction, drawn from past information and applied to a model in my economics textbook. People get bored and move on to something else. It happens.

I'm pretty sure you could go to a remote part of the Amazon rain forest and see no Pokemon!

But seriously, Pokemon never died. We just outgrew it. Ask any ten year old about Pokemon and they will not shut up about it. BTW, the games did, still do, and always will pwn. (But D&P were too easy!)

I don't mean all of these new pokemon. I mean the original 150 or 151 (which ever one it was). They were the coolest.
