Have any of you gotten it yet? It's freakin' awesome! I just kinda miss my Silver-orange winamp modern. Only a little bit though.

I dunno, I kinda prefer the winamp classic look (don't know just me I guess) but I really don't notice any new features and all...

Why do I need WinAmp when I already have Quicktime, iTunes, VLC, Media Player Classic, Media Player 10, and Media Player 6.5? :P

WinAmp was great back in the day, but I don't see any reason to use it over other programs. iTunes has the integrated store, VLC can play almost anything out of the box, and Media Player has SRS audio enhancement algorithms built in.

WinAmp can play almost everything. Why do you have WMP 10 AND 6.5?

Also, unrelated question. Could anyone get me the cover art to 403's album N.E.W.S.?

I'm pretty sure everyone with XP has it. Take a look:

C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\mplayer2.exe

OK so it's really 6.4, so what?

(I'm running XP Pro SP1a.)

I actually want to get rid of WMP, but it isn't in add/remove programs. WinAmp's all I need. It's one of those programs where you run it once, and you fall in love with it. Just like Firefox, Thunderbird, NesterJ, and SNES9X. I WILL ACCEPT NO SUBSTITUTES!

I only use Winamp and VLC. WMP is fail (impossible to do anything), iTunes is a resource whore and asks me to update it every other day (and I don't have an iPod), and Quicktime is ok for the 3 formats it plays. I use VLC on my laptop, since its lack of looks is nice on my older laptop. VLC is also good ofor the very formats Winamp can't play.

Firefox? yes. Thunderbird and NesterJ? Not so much. :P (I use the email web interface and FCE Ultra.) What's so great about WinAmp that makes it shine above everything else? It plays everything, but can it transcode between file and disc formats like VLC can?

You can remove Media Player with a program like XPlite, but honestly it takes a piddling amount of space by todays' standards, so you might as well just change file type associations and delete the shortcuts.

So can every other media player that relies on DirectShow filters at that point, including MP10. :P
Actually, yes
Really? Huh. They must have added that since the last version I used (4.something). It could only run MPEG-family and MIDI files.

Sort of, but that looks like it only does audio. VLC transcodes audio and video, and can stream any input (DVDs, cameras, tuners, files) over the network.

As for playing Ogg files, VLC can, MPC can't, Quicktime can't, MP10 can when you install a codec pack.

So is this a media player war or a media player "yo momma so fat" contest? ;)
