It is all up to YOU.

Post by ValiantVenality »

As you all know, I'm selling my Dreamcast collection in the Trading post. Ok maybe not all of you but some of you. Anyway, I need help on which system to choose. I narrowed down the choices:

Genesis X
Saturn X
SNES X
N64
PSOne

So basically, heres what I want. I would like to have a system that has super good replay value. That was my problem with the Dreamcast. I played it for a little bit, then got bored... I also want a system with just good all around games. Like good racing, sports, rpg, platformer etc.

My fate rests in your hands. YOU decide what system I should get. YOU are the person who is changing another person life. Its all up to YOU.

VV

EDIT: Ok. Now i have come to realize that Saturn is out of the question. There are only a few games that are worth getting, and most of them are expensive. Also, i think SNES and Genesis is knocked out too because as bic said, its waaay to easy to emulate it. So all thats left is N64 and PSOne. Very hard decision :?

If you're looking for variety, which it seems you are, then the PlayStation's the obvious way to go. Aside from that, you didn't feel that the Dreamcast had solid replay value? For a console that only lived two years and did so only with developers that hadn't been pushed away by Sega's boneheaded hardware moves in the eight years prior to its existence, I thought it had an astonishing library of titles (really good ones at that) which easily matched that of the Nintendo 64 and GameCube, both systems that lived out a normal lifespan for a home console.

snes is my favorite from the list. but this all depends on what games you like and all. after that, psone, then n64, genesis, and lastly saturn as it has the smallest library of games.

As I see it it's a tie between the SNES and the Genesis. There were a ton of great games for both systems, so you'll have a hard time getting bored. The PSOne is a nice third, then the N64 and the Saturn.

I'm not trying to say the Saturn sucks, but lets put it this way, very few games were made for it due to it's complexity, and any of the really good games have to be imported. You can find some really nice RPGs and racing games, I don't know about plat-formers or anything else.

PSone by FAR. As for replay value? These games NEVER get old;

1. Resident Evil 1, 2, and 3. These are my favorite games of all time (besides Vice City). I've been playing these since '97. I still pick 'em up every few months.

2. Dino Crisis 1 and 2. If you're into Resident Evil you'll like this. No zombies but same gameplay and tons of dinosaurs.

3. Metal Gear Solid. Again with the 3rd Persons, but with any Sony console this is a must.

4. Tekken 2 and 3. Mostly 3. They just all around kick ass.

I'd say Snes, because most of my favorite games are for it.

Playstation: good graphics, cheap, but lacks in the 2D area.
Saturn: Less of a selection than PS1, but has better games. Expensive.
N64: Good games, better graphics than Playstation, cheap.
Genesis: 2D, good selection of arcade games, cheap, bad for RPGs
SNES: Slowest of them all, mostly platformers and RPGs, bad for racing games.

Yes, N64=best system ever. Good graphics+zero load time, what more could you want? And it supports 4 players out of the box, no multitap required.

God, i wish Nintendo would have made some Super Cartridge Next-Gen Console.

With no loading times and graphics to boot too. But i know this will never happen. :(

the thing is just that cartridges are expensive. Unlike CDs, they contain an actual board, and not just some plastic and other cheap materials whipped together. Then, cartridges lack space. If you want big cartridges, it gets really expensive. And, here's a point for the general public: they're harder to pirate.

That being said they certainly have some awesome advantages.

Playstation: Better graphics than N64, larger game library. Get it.
N64: 0 load time, decent library, but I'm not crazy about the graphics. (It's all gourad shading and sprites.)
Genesis: Lots of sports games, Sonic, but it's so simple to emulate it's not worth it unless you get a really good deal.
SNES: Better music than Genesis (via the Sony audio processor), higher resolution than Genesis, more platformers, but it's so simple to emulate it's not worth it unless you get a really good deal.
