Power plug problem

I found a 2wire 1800HG gateway wireless rounter for cheap, but I need a REALLY hard to find power adaptor that Radio shack doesnt even seem to sell.

Its a DC 6v 2A, I was thinking of hacking up a higher voltage and sticking a 7806 on it, but they are only 1 amp.

I really need help on this.

If you lower the voltage on something, will it lower the amps aswell? I know that chargers for really old Toshiba laptops put out 2 amps, but it's 15 volts.

if you put 2 or 3 7806 chips in parallel on big heatsinks it will work

Welp, time for me to get more free stuff by saying im a buisness

Now i Need to figure out how to hook them up parallel. A simple diagram would help if somone is kind enough to do a quick one.

Open up the router and see what kind of voltage regulator it has, it might just have a 7805 in it so you could get a 7.5-12v adapter. Doesn't your Radioshack have the adjustable power adapters? I got one that can do several voltages from 3-7.5v @ 2A.

No power regulator to be found, I already tried a 12v, and I hope I didnt fry it, all the LEDS did was flash, i tried this 2 more times to make sure somthing wasnt loose and still just a flash of the LEDS, I`ll check for an adjustable one, hopefully they are not expensive.

TI.com. see N64 free DC/DC converters. They output up to around 16 volts (I believe it's input minus 1.3 volts) and are 2.5 amps.

they dont have a 6vOut 2amp dc-dc converter, closest thing they got is 6vout 1.5amps.

Ok about that 2or3 7806s in paralell.

a dc/dc is major overkill.

bust it open and see how the power goes. it might have its own 7805 anyways.

Like I said, I opened it and there is no 7805 inside.

Have you tried 5v or 7v on it? You can get them both from a computer PSU, 5v from the 5v line and ground, 7v by hooking the 12v line to the positive and 5v line to the ground of the router.
