Camcorder problems

I recently got a camcorder for free from my parents because it's tape loading mechanism is broken. It's a Samsung VP-L700 PAL mm Camcorder, which takes Hi8 tapes. The tape loading mechanism doesn't go down when the tape is inserted, and the side of the mechanism pushed in. Would anyone here have any idea what's wrong? I haven't gone on Samsung's site yet - just checking here first, since I don't mind if it gets wrecked or anything.
