FS: My 3rd portable N64

Well, I'm going to sell it. I have to fix the battery system right now, but It is still in working condition. The only flaws are: No av out, No extra controller ports, and thatI messed up the top right coner of the screen trying to do the anti glare modification. Pics are in worklog topic.

I'm asking $250

Does the one LED thats all sticking out in the top left of the screen screw up the screen anyway?

Have you ever considered ebay? I'm not sure if you sold your other N64 portables, but if not, try ebay for them as well, too. I think this was a bit before you came here, but my first portable, an ugly-ass red SNESp, ended up fetching just shy of $200, so I'm sure N64's would get top-dollar prices!

I'd rather sell here, and my dad wont let me use ebay, he doesnt trust it.

It'd be wierd if ben wanted a cut of our cash.

Ben can't take a cut, that isn't logical. E-bay charge for advertising fees and PayPal charge their fees too. This is a forum, not a commercial advertising space.

Don't sell it, take your existing one apart, make it as you want it, and make it pretty. No sense in selling this to get enough money to make a new one...

Hmmm, i could buy it i have $300 dollars to spend and all buuuut. I would rather see you take that apart and make it into a decent nice looking N64p for yourself. I think I'm going to start on my own project in the coming months anyways.

I really wanna get rid of this thing, so, if anyone wants to buy in current state,and fix battery themselves(basicly replacing the 3.3v stepdown, and maybe rewiring to get 12v to n64, and use a stepdown to 8v for screen)

The current batteries in there are 7.2v 6.6ah nimh(2 3.3ah wired together)

For $250, I'll fix battery, and add in L button, dpad, and power, a/v in, av out, and add 2nd, 3rd, 4th player ports

For $200, I'll fix batttery

For $150, you get the current unit

What if you just fixed the battery and added an L Button and a Dpad. But i don't want the other ports and the av in av out. How much would it be then? And are you paying your part of the shipping?

ShockSlayer - for $150 you are doing this for about cost price, after taking into account the cost of the PSone screen, batteries, N64, bits and bobs, etc. Why bother selling it - anyway, if you made the case pretty and solve the issues you mention, you could probably fetch double your completed asking price, maybe $400-$500; and thereby give yourself profit over and above the cost of making a new one - and the case you put this one into can be a template for your next project. Just a thought...

It is not unreasonable to charge on a project for your time and materials; so for example, if you took say 20 hours to make this, $10 an hour (or whatever you deem reasonable) = $200 plus cost of materials, parts and hidden costs (car costs to get to your store, etc) say $150 = $350, plus some profit (to make it worth your while), say $390 - however the end product (case, etc) must look good. If for example it looks excellent (like marshallh's L64 or Master of Portable's one should end up looking like: very nice) and it works reliably without glitches, you should aim for more like $490 as a fair price I believe. This isn't unreasonable, when you look at what these standard consoles cost when they are released at launch, the fact it is years later and the parts cost little is not relevant. When the N64 first came out in the UK, it cost Â£375 with no game included (I know this as my wife was involved in the N64 UK distribution). If you wanted Mario 64 it cost you about another Â£60 or thereabouts. (Â£375 is about $780 or thereabouts). Now you can buy the console and games for just a few quid.

On this basis of pricing, you can get a fair price without doing it for nothing; allowing you to make a profit over and above the cost for you to make another unit.

There is no way I will sell my project I am working on currently, however if I make another one (N64 only) I would work on the principles of pricing as above.

Twisted Warthog - most of the fun of this is making your own system. Actually, it isn't that hard making an N64p, but you need to be careful and methodical.
