What does XBOX live offer for the original xbox?

I just got an xbox a couple weeks ago and am thinking about getting xbox live. Is it just online play, or is there other stuff I can do on the old xbox?

why not softmod it and ran a program similar to xbox live that would allow you play online games for free? I cant remember the program names off the top of my head, but im sure somebody here does.

Xlink Kai and XBConnect. They don't require modding. You just need the computer running the program and the Xbox on the same network. They work with any game that can do LAN play.

1) Mod Xbox
2) Install Custom OS of choice (EvoX)
3) Download XBC (XboxConnect) and Install
4) Yay, free Xbox Live...sorta...

Can someone PM me with a push in the right direction for the most recent EvoX BIOS/OS, I've got something from like 2004, and EFNet has stopped hosting the files. Everywhere I go on Google turns out to be tutorials on how to connect to EFNet.

Nice. But that doesn't really answer my question. I know xbox 360 can do all sorts of cool online stuff like download demos, chat, dvr, play games, browse the internet, and stuff like that, but what kind of stuff does the old xbox do? Does it just play games or is there other stuff it can do once it's connected?
