get a legit copy (without a smiley)

Have you tried other programs like Nero or Alcohol 120% to burn it? Or, try to "acquire" an .iso or other file you can use.

.sit is a StuffIt file. (Sort of like .zip or .rar) Remember file extensions are irrelevant on Macs. You're going to need StuffIt Expander to open it.

Don't decompress it on a Windows box, decompress it on another Mac (with system 7 or something). You know, because Mac files are separated into Resource and Data forks, and Windows will just throw away the resource fork?

You can try OS 8 on your Windows machine if you download Basilisk II and get a System 7.5 hard drive image and the 4 MB Performa/Quadra ROM. I might be able to send you a boot image with 7.5.3 and Stuffit Expander 5, since both are free [yes Apple gives away 7.5], but you're on your own for the 4MB ROM.

And if you were thinking it or going to ask, or suggest this to him, no you can't natively run it on your Windows machine. :P

One thing i have never got is why somone doesn't make a processor emulater that runs out of an os, or in a cut down *nix system. That would be so much faster.

According to this guide bicostp is right. You'll need StuffIt, to decompress it.
