Official GNCp Question

I have decided to build the above. I am going to make it as close as I can. One of my only questions is what kind of disk drive is that (type), where can I buy it, and will it work with other GameCube components (boards, etc.)?

It's a slot-loading drive. No you can't use it with the gamecube hardware. The reason being that the gamecube uses a DVD-drive that is designed specifically to read the gamecube disk. It may be possible, but not without serious hacking and modding.

Only nintendo, Or if we get a breakthrough with the dd to ide topic in next gen will we ever see a portable like that.
