VGA to TV help needed

Hi all,

I'm working on building a media PC for my dorm, and need a little bit of help. Rather than spending a good amount of money on a VGA to TV converter box, I decided to give one of these a try. Once it arrived, I hooked it up to my tv and was able to get the tv to flicker a bit, that's all. My guess is that the refresh rate is probably wrong, as I've been running at a pretty low resolution (640x680) I saw one program, television eyes (found here) that I think may have been good, but it's very outdated (the readme says that 16-color mode is supported, and 256 is in progress.). The computer is a Compaq iPaq desktop with an Intel 82810e video card. If my computer's hardware cannot support this kind of adaptor, would a more expensive adaptor (the kind with a box to actually convert it)work decently for movies?

Any help with this is much appreciated.

Either
1. Get a real converter box like a TView (cheap on ebay).

2. Get a graphics card with built-in TV-out

I have one of those for my old matrox card...

The cable itself is just a cable, you need to change your display settings to have the right frequency and all that junk.

If the driver dosent support it, you can try the program called "powerstrip". it lets you do a lot of very advanced tweaks, including messing with sync frequencies (only if supported by hardware, of course)

I'd recommend powerstrip or a cheap card with TV out. I have a few crappier ones if you want one

Just got done trying out PowerStrip, and it's looking like my onboard video card just can't get that kind of frequency I'd put in a new card that supports TV-out, but this is a really weird computer that doesn't have PCI slots (but man is it small)

I'll probably get a real convertor box soon or something, I only put about $20 into this so far and have a pretty decent system.
