DIY Remote Control Repeater

I want to make an IR repeater for the DVD player, since it's kind of hard to hit from the table. (Furniture blocks it so you have to hold the remote pretty high for it to connect.)

I've found a couple circuits so far but I don't have some of the parts.

Parts I have:
- IR Receiver (from a broken TV)
- Infrared LED (from a broken universal remote)
- Various transistors, LEDs, switches, buttons, etc. (A whole parts case full of "pulls" from dead taken-apart hardware)

The general plan is to put it together inside a dollar store radio case, since it already has a 2x AAA battery holder.

I don't need a light to come on whenever it receives a signal (at most it would need a battery test light), so can I just use the two IR parts and a transistor? I mean, how complicated does it have to be, since it's only repeating what it's fed?

You should only have to wire the sensor to a transistor that switches the IR LED.

Yep, just wire the receiver to a transistor (and power source), then the boosted signal to an IR LED

then mount it on the celing and you should get pretty good reception
