Here is the concept art

Well I changed the plans for my laptop once again! This time I made better concept art, and I am going to make a custom CNC case for it, with a 7" ps2 screen.

I'm open to any donation's of cash/screens/Dreamcasts/Gamecube PSU's :wink:

Sorry it looks blurry.. the picture was 16mb when it was .BMP so now its a jpg.

Oh and yes I really like sonic before anyone even asks :P

Sadly I have to pull the plug for now :( I don't have good enough funds for it yet, but I really hope that I will be able to get the cash for this. I am getting a new dreamcast, and am going to use the old 1 for this laptop, but I still cant get a screen, or a case, probably gonna see if I can get someone to vac-form one after/if I end up being able to get the cash for it. plus my idea's will go threw some serious work first, and the system will be slimmed down allot, a 3.4" tall laptop would be a little bit odd... So I'm going to try to slim it down as much as possible, and there is a chance I may make a portable instead, seeing as the online dreamcast servers are all off now anyway a portable would be better in a way, plus the screen would be cheaper.

Well what do you guys think, laptop or portable?

Also with a portable if I made one I could still add my modem if I wanted to use it. A portable with a internet connection would be odd, but if there's room why the heck not right? What if I had it and got stranded somewhere without a phone but there was a random phone line, I could email for help. lol Razz

Prices for me to build it would be...

Laptop- $175
Portable- $75

^^That is if nothing goes wrong while making it. That would be the cheapest price, not counting wire/tact switches and things.

K I'll probably do that, just gotta get some cash for plastic too now. Time to mow lawns and clean people gutters!!! :cry: I hate gutters, but thats were the money is, people hate gutters..

Could anyone give me some links, or a small tut, on how to make a built in keyboard? I've never done one, so I could use some time waiting to get cash on learning how to do the keyboard.

Would it hurt anything, to cut off everything to the right of enter? Ive never used the keyboard on dreamcast, but is the up and down buttons and num-pad really used in anything?

Because my dimensions are going to be 12"x12" that means the dc, will fit with no modding, and I'd like to keep it small as possible.

My plan is simple, make the case with cnc then screw the dc in, add a like 5 inch ribbon cable for the controller port, and mod in 1 or 2 more fans so it keeps very cool. The case itself will have the dc will fit perfect into, with the normal on/off button and open button, with a square flip top cover, for the disk, unlike the normal circular one. It will still be a decent mod, but with less chance of needing to waste more cash by breaking something. If the arrow keys are used on online things allot, I will just find the traces from the keyboard, and put the arrows somewhere theres room, seeing as there will be like 4 inches on both sides of the dc.

Im pretty sure the keyboard that is built into that laptop would just be like PS/2 so get one of those adapters crack it open and see what you can figure out.

Considering how your case is going to be larger than the Dreamcast itself, I would say as long as you put in some air-holes you shouldn't need to put it any fans. Besides, they're a waste of power and loud.

I'd say that you COULD cut off everything to the right of enter, but don't take my word for it as I haven't seen the insides of a DC keyboard.

Alright, I was thinking more towards a dc keyboard tho, cause its white, and that will match my keyboard, but why not get both :D

And I'll take THON's advise on the fans.

I'll take a look at google and see if I can find anything about cutting parts of the keyboards.

Here are my thoughts, DC laptop is hard to make, but if you are willing to try go for it. And also, GD-ROM drive is big and noisy and clunky, if you want you can replace the drive with one from a Portable CD player to save space and make it less noisy. But then you won't be able to boot retail games, only homebrews and backups.
