The HipGear/Intec Screen Pad: A dying race?

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

The HipGear/Intec Screen Pad: A dying race?

Post by CronoTriggerfan »

PSOne screens run rampant, as well as many other types of larger screens, but the smaller ones have always been a bit trickier and more expensive to get a hold of. We, of course, love to use the HipGear and Intec screen pads as great small LCDs; however, their availability is becoming more and more scarce. I remember trying to get a hold of one about a month ago, and it seems the only place we can get them anymore is from each other. I mean, just last night, I was looking on Ebay, Amazon, etc. for one, and there was absolutely nothing.

Do you guys feel the same way, or am I just crazy? And if you do agree with me, what is going to fill the void for cheap, small screens? In my opinion, pocket TV screens are out of the question, they're just far too pricy, especially for a TFT unit. Some units that have been popping up on Ebay are these screens, which is what I ended up getting, and I know they've been used by a few other members here. Though $50 is still pretty expensive, it's still the cheapest small screen I've seen in a while, and it does have its perks (a bit more compact, higher resolution, etc.) So what do you guys think?

You're bad at searching. :P

I just bought one for $30 shipped, which really sucks seeing as there's an 18 dollar Hip-Gear amongst those links. :( Though I guess you're partially right, haven't seen TOO many around lately. Hopefully that will change!

Jeez, now you made me feel bad! :P But in all honesty, that's probably the first I've seen of them in a good while. Not a bad price, either; hopefully they'll be up there for a while!

EDIT: Man, couldn't pass that $18 screen up, I went ahead and got it.
