Obviously you can recharge typically up to about 4 single NiMH batteries in a charger. Some chargers charge for a certain amount of time and then turn off, others keep charging until you stop them (I have both types).
The question is this: If I had a set of batteries, let's say 6 or 9 for example permanently installed in a case, could I simply attach the positive battery output to the positive terminal on the recharger and the negative to the negative? My charger is capable of charging up to 4 batteries at a time, and also the 9v types too (multi-charger).
It currently takes about 24 hours to charge 4 x AA batteries (2650 NiMH each), would the whole lot (let's say 9 batteries) also take 24 hours, or would this take more like 60 hours??
The point of this is such:
1) Li-ion batteries, whilst giving better playtime, have issues with charging/recharging and can explode. They also need more attention. NiMH batteries in contrast are safe.
2) If you can permanently install NiMH batteries in your case, you can seal the unit - you only need two termainals pertruding to allow connection to a recharger.
3) Allows for a slimmer mod as you can incorporate the batteries around mobos and not have to worry about easy removal and access to the batteries.
4) Gives the advantage of Li-ion battery installation but with the safety of NiMH (ok, less battery life, that is the trade-off).
I am researching the N64 from the forum, I intend to try this mod, so evaluating options at the moment before I go into design mode.
