360 headset possible mod?

Post by Lorelis-san »

I had an idea with the 360 headset - Could you mod it at the plug end so that it splits into 2 PC-compatible plugs, one for the mic, one for the earphone?

Looking at the plug PCB, it looks possible, since it has labels for SP-, SP+, M+,and M- from headset/mic to PCB, and SP+, M+ and G at PCB to plug.

Thus, I'm guessing that getting 2 phono jacks, wiring the - to the ground and the + to the 2 left-right channels on the jacks will produce a working mod?

Not sure about this though, or whether I'll need any resistors or not. Any comments or ideas?

I know this has been done, but I cannot remember WHERE I saw this done. I'll look around again, but I know it is definitely possible to do.

Yeah, this is perfectly doable. I did something similar by chopping off my headset from the adapter that connects to the controller and attaching a 2.5mm jack so I can put any headset I want in there and still have the volume and mute buttons.

Just to clarify - nothing is needed apart from the 2 plugs?

And is it possible to use the wires at the plug end of the PCB with GND replacing SP- and M-?

Well, you'll need some wire and a soldering iron, and a multimeter wouldn't hurt.

The SP- and M- connections are the same. If you were to strip the wore on the 360 headset, you'd see there are only three there, SP+, M+, and GND (SP- & M-).

OK, thanks for that. I suppose I could cut the headset at the wire after the plug and mod both - One with 2 jacks, one for earphones, and other for mic.

I guess this topic should be left open for details on the mod
