Stock Snes having audio and lock up problems

I recently picked up a free Snes that I thought I'd play around with. Unfortunately while play testing it I discovered why it was free - the audio isn't working properly and some games freeze up (at the same point in the game every time).

Here's the data:
- Original large model SNS-001
- No separate cool sound module
- No obvious internal or external damage
- I don't think it's every been opened
- I think I've cleaned the AV parts throughly

I've tested both an RF and an AV cable and both yield the same results:
- Some games play ok except the background music is slightly distorted
- Some games play ok but the background music is extremely distorted
- The audio will totally cut out on some games
- Some games freeze up(at the exact same point every time)

Could this just be a dirty pin connector? (what should I use to clean that?) Any ideas on what I should look at?

Clean it. Get some rubbing alcohol and scrub all the connections on the A/V and the sound chip and the likes.

What's the best way to clean the connector? I'd rather the diy version instead of buying the actual snes cleaning kit.

Rubbing Alcohol and something stiff that will fit inside the cartridge slot. Or if you have some fine grit sandpaper (600+) use the GENTLY for the cartridge.
