My Future::: PS2p on the way!!!

Post by Ness »

Hey peeps!!!

I have been slowly getting money on the side and purchasing parts little by little and now, I feel, I have enough to start my PS2p! 8)

I will be using the PSTwo (Slimline for the unknown), a PSOne LCD, and a PSOne Batterypack to run it all off of. For this first version, I am going to keep things simple and just make it all basic: composite video, no mods (lcd screen, modchip, etc), etc. I want a basic system to start me off and help me learn more about this system. Also, it'll be a gift for my little brother who has disabilities. Yes, you can read up, yada yada yada. You can never fully learn anything until you get your hands dirty!!!

So...without further a-do, time to open this mofo up and solder/desolder away.

(if anyone has any tips please say so now)

Can anyone answer this question: are the a/v inputs for the psone and pstwo the same?

If so, and if I am reading it right, it would look like this (from the BOTTOM of the motherboard):

1-3-5-7-9-11
-2-4-6-8-10-12

Okay, I disassembled the PSTwo and soldered the av ports to the psone screen (pin 6 - composite and pin 8 ground). When I go to turn on the ps2 to test it, I see the red light, but once I hit the button, it goes away, then turns red again. Should I have something attached or something switched or is the board fried?

maybe the battery pack isn't supplying enough juice for the pstwo?

You got it!!!

I plugged in the original plug for the pstwo and it started working....hmmm...time to find a better battery supply. That's okay though, I'd rather that be the problem then the board frying.

I'll continue testing with the plug til I can find an adequate battery.

I can look at the bright side too...the battery can be used for an snes project or even a genesis...hmm..perhaps a turbografix project too!!!

Okay...video issues right now.

I used av cable and cut it apart...next, I soldered the yellow wire to the video slot on the lcd, and the brown to the ground on the lcd. No video is coming up....are those the right spots/wires for this?

EDIT:::
Damn...screen fried! Tested on other sources and no good. Time to find another one... :(

Will work on casing for the time being.

EDIT::::::
Placed a bid for a 7" lcd screen...that'll work well. I won't mess with that til I am DONE working on the PS2 next time...sometimes you gotta find things out the hard way :?

I may be a little late, but did you connect the power?

What do you mean by power? I had the screen plugged into it's original source and just soldered the video wires onto the lcd board.

Oh ok, I didnt know if you had power going to it or not.

Have you tried jumping the fuse? And did you solder the video wire to the pin on one of the connectors or the spot on the back of the pcb?

The PS1 battery pack STINKS! Throw it away. Like literally, in the trash. Weighs like 50 pounds and gives about 2-3 hrs battery life (On PS1). Not worth it. Plus, I think it's Ni-Cd.

Also, I'd imagine it's not up to the challenge of powering a PSTwo. Apparently those things suck quite a bit of power.

Yeah, it sucks a lot alright

I ordered a new lcd (madcatz 7") and I'll work with that one right now instead...bigger than the psone anyways and easier to see what's going on on the screen.

Just need to wait for that and somehow sneak in a small tv into my job so I can test things easier and not break the screen that fast. I have no space at home, literally, so I have to work on it during down time at work. It comes and goes so it's all good.

I didn't desolder anything yet on the ps2 cause I wanted someone to help me confirm the pins on the ps2 av port. If they are the same as the psone.

Gonna work on the tv thing today =P hehee

the ps2 av port is the same as the ps1. i think the original ps1 did not support component output though.

Change of plans...my little brother wants the ps2 as is (no mods). So, I'll purchase another system this weekend and go all out on it instead.

Here are the new plans!!!

Slim PS2 with a 7" LCD (MadCatz)!!! No complaints there...time to work on the case design.

Finally got my PS2 slim and my 7" screen as well. I really like this screen from MadCatz so I am gonna purchase another one while I continue testing with this one and using it for gameplay on other systems here at work. =P

Any good recommendations on a battery for this sucker???
