New PC for a Mac user.

OK please help this PC noob out.

I am buying a new PC, my first (I am a mac user by nature) and need some help, i will mainly use it for games and forums, and multimedia, dvd burning etc etc. I was originally going to get an iMac, then saw an artical about hackintoshes, and jumped into it....

What type shuld I get, can you give me some recomendations for it? I am hopeing to also use it as a hackintosh latter, mabye.

Would it be better to build one from scratch, or buy a costom factory one, I have experence in making computers, if you ask.

Addition: I would PREFER some of the following, if possible, my budget is, sadly around $1000-2500AU
- Silent fans
- Larger LCD 19" +
- Nice cheap surround sound card, and speakers (although they sell logitech 5.1 pc speakers here for $79AU)

Does it have to be LCD? IMHO you would be better off looking around flea markets, ham radio meets, garage sales, thrift stores, goodwill, etc. for a nice big CRT, my 21" 1600x1400 only cost me 40 USD at a ham meet, (unfortunately I killed it by trying to move it my self

So the giant mac fanboy who invades all the pc's wants a mac, imagine that. I would just get a cheap machine thats pre-built and upgrade it, but that might just be me.

Macs are PC's.

I'm all for custom building them. If you'd like, you could tripleboot Windows, Linux, and OSX on the new computer, through OSX86.

Or, even better, quad-boot OSX, Linux, XP, and Vista (just for the hell of it).

Also, get XP, vista isn't needed just yet, unless you want Halo 2 really badly.

Oh, and if you build, get an Antec case, those are awesome/ly silent.

its definitely like at least 10% cheaper to build it yourself.

Why would a Mac user lower himself in such a way. Usually when people refer to 'the switch' they mean from PC to Mac.

I am making the 'switch' because I want to play 3D games, at a resonable speed and price, also, can still run OSX on it, mabye.

No, PCs can't run OSX. The cheapest PCs I've seen are from MDG, but I think they're only in Canada, although I could be wrong. If you have one of the newer Intel Macs you can just buy Windows and install it on that. I think you can have both Mac and PC on separate partitions, although I could be wrong.

Please remember that in the OSX agreement, you argree NOT to install it on anything other than Mac hardware.
