Camera coilgun (assuming these cameras have a flash) :)

Who wouldn't love to build a futuristic kinetic weapon out of household items?

EDIT: Oui, Jeroen beat me to it.

Caps are what you need.

But I must warn you: THe coil is very time-consuming, wrist numbing, and very VERY picky.

I made one arbitrarily out of a thin gauge wire and it launch a ball bearing decently far (7-10 feet at 45 degrees). However, I made one according to the specs on a site and it didn't even make it out of the tube.

It's very messed. But I only used 5 caps...
Hey, sup?

A railgun basicly has two rods of steel, with a small gap beetween them, with the caps across them. You put a al foil ball beetween them, it turns into plasma and shoots out the end, I wouldn't bother, just make a coilgun, I used a car relay. Removed the guts of it, and used the coil. Worked ok, but am building a better one.

Were did you get the cameras from?

I bow down to you, but you will never match my hawtness.

EDIT: Try this, it was on HAD a while ago. http://www.evosapien.com/robosapien-hac ... apien.html Look out, please make sure you are over 18 when you read the page, or just pretend you have a beard for the 30 seconds while you read the one line disclamer.

I put all the caps on a plain breadboard, and Im wiring together all the + and -.

By the way, I miscounted. 31.

How would I make a charging circuit? Or should I try to salvage one from the boards?

Yes, use the charging circuits from one of the cameras, preferably one that has a "flash ready" LED indicator.

Could someone post detailed instructions for making a coil gun? Everything I've ever seen makes it seem like they took the caps out of some cameras, set them by a bearing, and it flew across the room.
