Computer Internet Problems

Hmm, my internet is coughing up blood. It's really odd. After I dl'd the Firefox update, this just started happening. What I mean is that the internet lags LIKE HELL. Before my Google/Firefox homepage would come up in a snap. But now, I need like three minutes for it to appear. Another weird occurence, is that, 'main' websites, like say the actual index of the forums, I'd click on it, then at the bottom it would say done without anything on the page and pressing refresh would make it appear. However, with the innard sites (forum 42), it would just come up, albeit slower than usual. I'm really perplexed and this is harming a lot of the time I need.

Crazy, just might work. Also, I don't know if I'm hallucinating, but it was a bit faster in one window, then I closed it, reopened it and back to lag:(

Update: Unplug and Replug was no success

Is it just Firefox or IE too?

Try this:

1. Start -> Run, type "cmd"
2. type ipconfig /release
3. Type ipconfig /renew

Then, type "ping www.google.com" (no quotes), copy and paste the pings and results here.

OK, now this just got weirder. It's in all of my web browsers: Firefox, MSN, and IE...I'm really confused. OK, another werido thing. When I typed ipconfig /release, and message said that I have little of no connection to my DSL, so then I pressed repair, and alas it was 'repaired' for only like three seconds (it went back to lag)...and another weird thing was that when I typed /release, the IP wasn't there, but typing in /renew, I got it back. Next, I tried pinging google...the most re-dumbest thing happened, or maybe it's me....this was the screen.

Call your Dsl company. There is most likely an issue somewhere down the line. Happens with my Dsl a lot.

Also try the obvious. Shut down computer and unplug modem for 1 minute. Plug it back in and restart computer.

I was having major problems with my DSL dropping out, then one day it just stopped working.

They walked me through the whole "unplug all the phones and go plug this in at the fuse panel" kind of thing before they finally sent a guy down to check.

Well turns out my modem was toast so they gave me a new one.

Did that MULTIPLE times, I think I'll just call Verizon. I' gonna call cable one o' these days.

Of course you lost your IP address when you typed /release. That's what it does!

Typing /renew sends out a signal to fetch a new address from the DHCP server (your modem or router). Sometimes this alone can fix network weirdness.

Ooh that reminds me: Do you have your computer plugged into your DSL modem directly or are you using a router? Try plugging the computer directly into the modem. If all is well and good, then your router is messed up. If you still get lag, it's either your PC or your modem.

To make sure the problem isn't software, restart your computer. Hit F8 after the BIOS/POST screen and before the Windows logo appears. Start the computer in Safe Mode with Network Support. This will load the minimal drivers and software needed to boot the computer, and still allow you to get online. If it's still laggy, your modem might be toast.
