Windows XP -VS- The PS2

Why? They are two very popular mass-market items of approximately the same age that have a huge installation base.

And now both are being "upgraded" to newer, more expensive versions. Granted for all the worries now we'll all be running Vista in 2 years anyway (no need to chime in on that Apple/Linux users, thanks) whereas the PS3 is a bit more up in the air, but still...

Which of these is going to see the hardest road to adoption? If you'd played God of War 2 you know the PS2 can still be pretty impressive, even if it's seven years old.

You ether spend $600 on a PS3, or spend $600 for RAM to run Vista. They both look hard to adopt in my opinion, but I still voted.

Meh the PS3 looks a lot easier than vista right now in my opinion but that's because I don't want to buy all the new crap to update my computer for vista.

Vista is way harder to adopt than a PS3. At least the PS3 doesn't cripple your games and media when you play them on it.

Right?

Between the definition throttling and DRM, Vista seems like nothing more than XP Servcie Pack 3 dipped in liquid plexiglass.

Not to mention the hardware upgrades I would need to run Vista and some of my hefty programs. It may also be my reluctance to upgrade. /me is still running Service Pack 1a... and was running 2000 SP4 up until last February.

I'll stick with XP, thankyouverymuch. It does what I need it to do.

XP is easily crackable now. Just a simple replacement of a DLL file in system32 & you're set! (wheras w/ the PS2, you have to take it apart (very complicated for newbs) & solder a mod chip on VERY small contacts)

Upgrading from a PS2 to PS3 involves, what, pushing the PS2 aside and plugging in the PS3?

Upgrading from XP to Vista...will the device drivers work? Is your cheap 30 dollar TV tuner going to have a driver in the near future? Does your software work? Will HP release 64-bit drivers for that 2-year-old printer if you have Vista 64bit version? Long story short, it may be hard, it may be easy, but until you do it you're stepping into the unknown.

I guess that's sort of what I mean. Also which will be harder for the public to accept in general, not which is techinically harder than the other.

Well in that case I'd have to say the PS3 will be harder for the public to adopt than Vista. When soccer-mom's 'puter stops working, she buys a new computer, and all new computers will come with Vista. A huge chunk of the population will end up with Vista and not think anything of it.

The PS3...well, my Gamestop sells one or two 360's every day, zero Wii's (because every shipment sells out in just a few hours) and, what, one PS3 every few weeks? The thing is darned expensive, and it gets a whole lot of extra negative advertising in-store.... The display system consistently overheats and freezes mid-game.

PS3 is harder for me, but that might just be because it has less fun games than Vista has support, and that's from experience.

I voted the PS3.

Reasons?

I can purchase Windows Vista Ultimate for $25 through my University in April and I enjoy using it on the lab computers. I dont need to upgrade my computer to use it (my computer kicks the lab computers in the nutz anyways). Dell computers come preloaded with it now (gateway, compaq also I think) so in about 1-2 years when people buy new computers they will automatically get Vista.

God of War proved that you can have awsome graphics on 7 year old hardware (Wii graphics hardware is based on 5-6 years *cough*) so its really up to the programmers to push that hardware. I thought the PS2 was done graphics wise when FF12? (i lost track how many there are lol) came out. So for me atleast the Graphics of the PS3 don't justify the $600 price tag as I would rather spend $450 on a new video card on my computer and get better graphics (my computer does what the PS3 can do plus a side of fries). Hell at the moment the Xbox 360 graphics look identical to the PS3 (subject to change in the future i suppose tho, depends if developers can fully utilize the overly engineered cell processors tho).

Plus the PS2 is out selling the PS3 right now (chuckles).

Gaystation 3: Â£500

What can I play on Windows Vista, Halo 2 with my mates online without a subscription fee to Xbox Live (albeit a good subscription fee), and the satisfaction of knowing I can use my K+M and monitor... PC FPS > Console FPS

What can I play on Playstation 3? Another gay Gran Turismo that other racers on Xbox1/360 craps on.

I'm not trying to be a fanboy, but the PS3 is rather expensive and the game list ain't nothing brillant either, although Vista is a wasteful upgrade, i'll stick with Xp for now, and Xbox 1.

I'll be honest. For someone who has been using computers since the age of two, I really hate having to learn a new interface. I'm not as stubborn as I sound, I just hate having to adapt to a brand new interface after I just spent the last X years learning how to use the previous one.

MacOS ?-6: 3 years
Windows 3.1/DOS: 3 years
Windows 95/98: 5 years
Windows XP: ~7 years
MacOS 8-X: 3 years
Vista: I've used it maybe three hours total since it's release; until the cost of good RAM goes down and they perfect the drivers for the hardware I use, that's precisely how long I intend to have used it.

Not that I'm a PS3 fanboy; I hate the thing. Though I will probably use my University price cut to pick up the best copy of Vista I can afford and forgo installing it until they get the bugs worked out.

couldnt have put it better myself. i dont think i want to upgrade consoles for a long while (when banjo threeie or another katamari game come out). at the moment the current gen is perfectly fine for me and my computer can run xp without upgrades.

For me:

Vista: $200

PS3: $600 with a Game

My Computer is already pimped so i need no ram or upgrades. Vista is running sweet and all games play just as good as on XP.

So for me, upgrading to Vista was way easier and wallet friendlier than a PS3 (But I hate Sony anyway, so PS3 will never enter my house, only a Black 360 and Wii are allowed!)
