I think Ben reads all the PMs everyone sends that way he can steal all of our ideas.
This is just a stupid comment
but I think it is true
. I would really like to know if he does read all the PMs
or if any of the admins get to either.

Anyone with access to the database (admins) can read anyone's PMs. The only strings that are encrypted are passwords.Rellizate wrote:Unless the admins have installed a phpBB mod, they cannot read our PMs. And by judging that they havn't even been bothered to install quick reply, or a new skin I doubt that they installed a PM mod.
Quick Reply can be nice, I don't know why it's disabled. (Pretty sure it came with phpbb though...)
As for skins, nobody's proposed any...

It's possible to read PMs, but it's not as simple as going to the "read PM" section or anything like that. Doing that would require dumping the entire database (posts, accounts, PMs, settings, etc.) and running the right queries to find all PMs sent/received by a certain person

All you members can be at ease I don't know how to use SQL to do such things nor would I waste the time in doing a backup of the system to do such a search if I could.SpongeBuell wrote:It's possible to read PMs, but it's not as simple as going to the "read PM" section or anything like that. I, too, have been asked this question on my forums.
I bet Openoffice.org could do the trick, but it'd still be a lot of trouble. You'd have to dump the database every time, & for a forum like this, it's probably over 20MB.

This is the same sort of crap I hear at my job all the time since I'm in IT. There are many people who think we read their e-mail.
Could I read it?
- Yes
Do I read it?
- No
Given the volume of e-mail received it would be impossible to read all of it no matter how badly you wanted to. If a manager voices a concern about a particular employee then a particular account is scrutinized.
I, and I'm sure Ben in the case of the PM's, have much better things to do than read other peoples messages/e-mail.
I'm sure if this becomes a great concern to all of you, Ben can just go into PHP Admin and click the Disabled radio button next to Private Messaging and that would put an end to the matter right there.
Also, I am curious, can you cite any examples where Ben stole someone's ideas from a PM?
It's one thing to make accusations, it's quite another to fulfill the burden of proof.
