nomad questions.

well. wonderful. I got a nomad today. off ebay.

its alright. BUT. it came with...CONTRA HARD CORPS. FRIKIN AWESOME.
its not as good as the NES contras though.

but back on topic:
1)I noticed it had an AV output port. does this mean I can use its screen?
how do I connect it? it doesnt look like av jacks.

2) I have no battery for it. where can I get one? ebay?

3)does it have a TFT display?

4) its in mint condition.

5) RESPOND!

I think that helps.

You can deduce that it doesn't as Ben boasts it as an advantage over the Nomad

Hi I'm new but I have all the answers.

1) It uses the Sega Genesis 2 and 3 AV plug

2) ebay will have 2 different battery packs for it. There is the manual one that uses 6 AA batteries. Then there is the rechargable one, the rechargable one is going to not work initially, you're going to have to replace the rechargable batteries if you plan to buy it.

3) No it does not have a TFT screen. It has a QVGA 320x244 Passive Matrix screen with a digital video signal.

4) Awesome, bring it to the office and turn up a few heads.

5) It is a great portable, I'd say greatest up until GBA where I think they pretty much an equal graphically and sonically.

meh, I noticed it had a blurry screen when it moved. youd think 1995 would have better innovations.

odd. the video out port looked just like an S-video port.

Really, digital video? I always thought the screen's controller board converted the analog signal. someone check me on this...

well....I am supposing that RGB is digital.
it was pretty modern.

Yes, but composite isn't RGB. RGB is RGB.

Also, it probably wouldn't be the smartest thing to sacrifice a valueble Nomad for just it's screen.

Plus, RGB is still pretty much the clearest picture you can get. The only thing I can think of that can do better than RGB is HDMI, because there's much less chance of deterioration.

this thing was valuable.

They did. I have a PowerBook from '95 with an active-matrix TFT screen. Those screens were just VERY VERY expensive, much more than the Nomad. Remember the home console they were making portable cost more than the Game Boy, and they had to throw in a screen and other parts to make a functional game system. They wanted to remain competitive, so they went with a cheap screen.

Don't bother screwing with that screen, it's not worth the effort. But if you're that stubborn, go read this:

You can't get Composite on that unless you make a decoder board. (which is pretty hard.)

why would I want to waste a perfectly good nomad?
instead, id steal one from a hobo.
