Noob at Tact Switches
I would like to start using some tact switches but i have no idea what to do. So lets say i wanted to attach a tact switch to the L2 button on a PS2 controller would anyone point me in the right direction with some pics or something. Cheers^_^
Hey, yes. There are two ways:
The easier method and the harder method.
The easier method is when you solder the wires from the tacts onto the approprate places on the button board from the controller.
Like so:
You solder one wire on each half of the black pads, that you have scraped down to the metal previously.
The harder method, is you solder the wires to the actual metal pins. This is what the majority of people do, however I have no idea why is it is very delicate. I don't have a picture of this.
The two wires you now have go on opposite side of the tacts. Like so:
Yes, that blobby thing in the middle is a tact. To make this easier, you can mount the tact on a piece of PCB or Perfboard or something.

Oh no, not the PlayStation controller...
See, what you took pictures of is just a plastic overlay, or, circuit-on-a-sheet, as I call them. The best idea is to trace the traces (heh) on the plastic overlay back to the main circuit board. There will be 16-20 vertical pins that you can solder to, to recreate the plastic overlay with tact switches.
