7805 bolted to ground plate?
I'm having heat issues with my 7805. Is it ok if I bolt it down to my snes ground plate? (original snes)

you probably can. anything other than it's own metal that is larger should work. or, if you try this, you can put silicon heat sink lubricant to sink excess heat
and the back plate of regulators usually don't have electricl interface.

The tab is almost always an electrical connection, unless of course it is completely sealed (no metal showing). For the 78XX (and many other) series regulators, it is connected to ground.Retromaster wrote:you probably can. anything other than it's own metal that is larger should work. or, if you try this, you can put silicon heat sink lubricant to sink excess heatand the back plate of regulators usually don't have electricl interface.
For the SNES, since the ground plate is presumably connected to the DC power ground (I've never actually done anything with an SNES, but it would be a bit odd if it wasn't), then it shouldn't be a problem mounting the regulator on it.

It should work, so go ahead and try it. If it fries your SNES, you can sue us.
