did i burn a led on the psone screen...

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

did i burn a led on the psone screen...

Post by Master of Portables »

well i was messing around with the batteries on the newly bought small led in the psone screen, but i think i might have shorted the leds out, blue sparks, and now it smells like burnt rubber(don't ask why) i opened the screen to check, and one has black spots on one side, but the whole screen smells burn, why is that(i wasn't using a resister, )

you're gonna need some more leds. let's hope you have some spares...
if not, I could probably lend you some as I purchased 200 t1 leds from japan. better yet, go to mouser .com. Of course, you already know this so i'll shut up now.

OOOOOHHHHH YEEEEAAAAHHHHH..........
that's why......you see, you standard t1 white leds are 3 volts, so 7.2 volts would roast it like a marshmallow....mmmm.....marshmallows.....
next time try a two pack of 2 AA batteries in a holder to test leds. that's what I do and I have missed out on the marshmallows.

I don't think he ran it off 7.2v. I assume he ran his screen off 7.2v and then his leds of the 5v point off the screen.

What has a black spot? The LED or screen?

Shorting an LED wouldn't do anything to the actual LED.

Is your sceen not working? Or just smelly?

Did you try wiping the LED?

And what are you asking for help with? Everything sounds to be fine, except smelly.

than if no 10ohm resistor is connected to the led, it'll fry.

Not in the way he's describing it. It would cycle through colors, fade, get hot, then die.

Why are we so overly concerned about this? Replace the LED, use some febreeze, and it's fixed!

It would cycle through colors
how can a white LED cycle through colors?
shades of white? I've put 18 volts just for fun into a red led once. It exploded. and it remarkably smelt like.....marshmallows.....

White LEDs are actually blue, but there is a yellow phosphor coating mixed in the plastic casing, so you actually see a mix of blue and yellow light.
