NES ipod controller
This guy made an ipod dock/controller out of a NES controller. He can even play doom with it

I started a project like this, but it never really got off the ground because I couldn't get it to compile under iPL. It used an actual NES controller hooked up to the iPod via serial port.
It wouldn't be very hard, check here for a lot of information on the NES signals. The ipod already outputs serial at TTL levels, so no shifting is necessary. PM me if you want to see the beta of my code (written in C). It's just an interface.

I would assume Forward, Left, and Right. You'd have to do a lot of turning around. The one button I assume would be fire. Didn't you need a button for opening doors in doom, though? Hm.
