Dreamcast with Bad GD-ROM Drive

This is very similar to my PSX with a bad CD-ROM drive thread. Nothing works to fix it, and I was wondering if I could use a portable CD Player Drive instead. Yes, I know I wouldn't be able to play retail games, but all I use it for is homebrew anyway, so as long as it can load a CD-R, it's fine with me. I don't know if the ribon cables are the same for both drives like the PSX, because I haven't checked yet. But I figure it will work if the ribon cables match up. Then I can just trace the signals on the power cable and then just solder it in place. Possible?

i have no idea if that would work but if its broken anyway go for it. id be really interested in the results
