PS One screen and Arcade Neo-Geo Vertical hold problem

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

PS One screen and Arcade Neo-Geo Vertical hold problem

Post by uriahsky »

I operate coin-op games and when I saw that Ben had used a PS1 LCD screen for a Arcade Neo-Geo I had to have one for my test bench so that I don't have to lug CRT monitors around. So I wired one up. (I have Ben's book on order) I found the pin outs on the web. The picture comes up but I don't have a sold sync. I get a slight roll every second. Kind of like when the vertical hold is not set right on a crt. Only thing is there is no vertical hold on these things?? Or is there?? Anyone have any clues on how to fix this problem. I have three screens and they all do the same and of course a number of arcade boards and they all of the same rolling problem with the PS1 screen. Help please!!
Thanks

ok what are you using for the inputs and the power supply?

it sounds like there is something funny with the C-sync or the poer supply providing "Brown" voltages (brown is a drop in voltage usually associated with "brown-outs")

I am usng a variable powersupply set at 7.8volts DC. I adjusted the voltage up and down a little and it didn't make a difference. I am using the following to wire into the PS1 screen.
Green to pin 12 on the male input
Red to pin 11
Blue to to pin 9
Ground to pin 8
Sync to pin 5.

I have tried pin 6 as sync and pin 7 as sync.
JAMMA doesn't have a 7.5 volts DC so I can't pull that directly off the JAMMA Harness. I don't have Ben's wiring diagram for this because the book I ordered was out of stock and I just ordered another one from Amazon yesterday so it will be a few days. I guess Ben has been pretty busy and hasn't had a chance to answer my emails to him. Any other ideas? Anyone?? please.

Thanks
